Jackie and I reflect on our many happy experiences with Murray and Rhoda: folk dancing, travel, hiking and cross-country skiing. Murray and I once discussed our Army days and he said after Basic Training, he was assigned to a Ranger Battalion, a Mountain Artillery Company, where he served as a 'muleteer', riding a mule and leading a string of pack mules carrying the pieces of a cannon through roadless mountains. One would think that the Army would have selected guys who had been Western ranch hands but no, here was Murray, a young fellow from Brooklyn who had seen few if any mules, let alone never ridden one!

He and Rhoda will be in ur hears forever.

What a unique experience for a soldier!

Murray was a devoted member of the Morristown (NJ) folkdance group. He and Rhoda taught and led many of the international dances that we still do - each time we do one of them, we remember the two of them, two of the most ardent soulmates we've ever seen. Commenting on how many marriages are troubled, Murray and Rhoda used to joke that tour buses might end up coming to their house, to see what a 'normal' marriage used to be like.

Murray was an inspiration to us all: he was an avid runner and marathoner and hiker - he occasionally wore a T-shirt that boasted he'd run 8,000 miles. [At least I think it was 8,000.] When I asked him about it, he said it was already out of date - he'd run much further.

Murray and Rhoda were the consummate hosts: they guided my wife and me on one of our most memorable vacations, showing off every corner of their beloved Sante Fe.

The two of them are in heaven together, in each other's arms, dancing away in the clouds. They both will be acutely missed - and warmly remembered - by all of us in the NJ dance community.

I was Murry's bereavement counselor several years ago. I loved his spirit, and will always remember him. I still have the picture he sent me of him wearing a Santa hat!
