Davey was my classmate since Waiakea Intermediate. She was very athletic. I, on the other hand, wasn’t. As part of P.E., we had to participate in volleyball games during lunch recess. Davey was captain, she could select her players for her team. This was done in front of the whole school. Naturally the poor athletes are left and I was sure I’ll be the last one. But Davey, bless her heart, selected me when she had half her team. She knew I was not a player but she encouraged me and made me feel part of her team. To this day, I’ve never forgotten her compassion and kindness on that day. Throughout the years, Davey has remained her true self. Funny, kind hearted, compassionate and a wonderful person, who always had time to stop and chat. I miss her. I know she’s with Rosie (miss her too). Much love and aloha to her family.
