Virginia “Carolyn” Vanoven, 84, of Mt. View, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2019 at home. Born in Texas, she was a resident of Hawaii for over 45 years. She is survived by her granddaughter, Marisa Dabney. Read Obituary
If this is the Ms. Vanoven from Cleburne TX, I knew her well. I was friends with her son Pat Vanoven all thru our school years. I lost touch with Pat in about 1984. We were truly saddened to hear of your grandmother’s recent passing and wanted to extend you our sincerest condolences.
Carolyn was a special customer at our glass and screen shop for a very long time. I still remember the days when she would come by with your dad and we would chit chat about our families. She was especially fond of you and always beamed with pride as she updated me on the latest events of your life. Over the years, she kept me updated on how well you were doing in school and it brought her so much joy to watch you grow up and do so well in life.
She had the kindest heart too, even for animals, and I always enjoyed seeing the pictures of her pet pig. Wasn’t it named Wilhelmina? That piggy grew up to be a very large pig but in Carolyn’s eyes, it was still her baby and she pampered Wilhelmina like a queen. That was Carolyn though, doing everything from the heart.
We didn’t see much of Carolyn in the past several years but when she did stop by, she always took the time to talk story and she always had a smile on her face. That’s what I will miss about her. No matter what, we could always count on a smiling face when she walked into our store. Please know that we appreciated her friendship and her patronage of our business. We’ll surely miss her as I know you will too.
Wishing you comfort in knowing that Carolyn had a big impact on many lives in our community and she will be fondly remembered.
