Anthony Bernard Mathis' Obituary
Anthony Bernard Mathis, 65, of Honomu, passed away on August 6, 2020 in Hilo. Born in March of 1955 in Cienfuegos, Cuba, he came to the Big Island in July of 1992 to attend the University of Hawaii School of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources in Hilo, graduating with a Major in Psychology and a minor in Tropical Agriculture. He worked in the Social Services field for several years and later ran the Akaka Falls Inn in Honomu with his mother.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
He is survived by his mother, Sonia R. Martinez of Honomu; two brothers, John (Sylvia) Calero of Alabama and Ben (Ivette ) Calero of Florida; three sisters, Allysa Calero of Florida; Marion E. Mathis of Tennessee, and Sherry Mathis Hutchings of South Carolina; an aunt and uncle; and several nieces and nephews.
