Carl Frederick Oguss' Obituary
Dr. Carl Frederick Oguss died at home in Kea’au, Hawaii on January 29, 2026. He was 69 years old. Dr. Oguss was born in Far Rockaway, New York to parents Murray Oguss and Louise Kirn Oguss. He is survived by siblings Fran Oguss Stallings, David Oguss, Emily Oguss Robertson and Ken Oguss. Nieces and nephews: Rebecca Stallings, Ben Stallings, Ethan Oguss, Daniel Oguss, Audrey Oguss Hollingshead, Russell Robertson, Heather Robertson Moores, Madeline Oguss, and Samantha Oguss Farrington.
Dr. Oguss attended a variety of colleges and universities; sampling their best courses in philosophy and psychology. He earned a PhD in Education from Harvard University where he studied under Lawrence Kohlberg. After graduation he taught a variety of English Language courses at Reitaku University and other schools in Japan. Afterward Dr. Oguss made his home in Hilo, Hawaii where he focused on real estate investments and travel. He founded the Hawaii Dog Psychology Center and devoted his time to helping people understand the best ways to live and work with dogs.
Dr. Oguss embraced the Hawaiian lifestyle. Among his passions were chess, animal psychology, philosophy, poetry, film, ethnic cooking, swimming and scuba diving. He was “Born To Raise Questions.” - Ken Oguss.
