Edwin Moniz Cobile's Obituary
On the morning of Saturday, March 4, 2023, Edwin Moniz Cobile passed away in
Hilo, Hawaii. Edwin was 87 years old. He was born in Maasin, Southern Leyte in
the Philippines, and was the youngest of three sons of Raymundo Machado
Cobile and Margaret Moniz Cobile.
From a very young age, Edwin worked along with his father and brothers to
build amazing things including a tug boat and he was an integral part in the
family auto repair shop business. Edwin was an avid reader of books and
magazines that intrigued his curiosity and passions for building ideas. He built
his daughters a go-cart which the neighborhood kids got to enjoy too, an
ukulele and finally a beautiful home on the Big Island. Music was also a passion
of his and was a self taught musician. He enjoyed playing the guitar, piano,
violin and trumpet with various bands through the years.
Edwin, his wife Purita and daughters moved from the Philippines to Hilo where
they lived for several years before moving to Chicago. They eventually moved
back to Hilo in the 90's to retire and enjoy the great weather and to be closer to
relatives.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Purita Cobile of Kurtistown, three daughters, Eden
(Douglas) Bennett of Honolulu, Edelyn (Prescott) Ellwood of Kurtistown, Edna
Aguinza of Manila, Philippines; sister-in-law, Mary Cobile of Hilo; eight
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; cousins, nephews and
nieces.Eldest daughter, Joselyn Cobile Cabarse (deceased). Funeral mass to be held at St.
Joseph Catholic Church at 9:30am on Friday, April 28th located at 43 Kapiolani
Street, Hilo, HI.
