I met Hillary as part of a Durango, CO meditation group. I recall that this was around the time her daughter was finishing high school. I still clearly recall Hillary's calm and graceful way of being in the world. In her grounded presence, she offered the gift of simply being. My heartfelt condolences to family and friends.

Prayers to family and friends. We were lucky enough to find Hillary at a time in our life in Durango, Colorado when we were broken. Hillary helped our children (5 and 7 year olds at the time) understand feelings dealing with loss. She touched our lives. My daughter recently reminded me of that time with Hillary. She still carrys with her Hillarys teachings.

I was so saddened to read of the passing of Hillary.I hired her as children's play therapist when she was living in Durango. Her office was right next to mine and worked together for during the brief time she was in Durango. She loved her work and had such a passion and dedication to all the children she worked with. I have thought about her over the years and did not know where she was but hope that she was giving of her time and talents to those things she loved best. I know how devoted she was to you Natalie as we shared many stories of her parenting adventures. My deepest sympathies to all of you.

I just got a permanent home yesterday for the life sized Colorado Squawfish we made years ago. It is a beautiful work of art from a very beautiful woman.

I met Hillary when she stopped to pick me up in southern Utah. I was thumbing south to Flagstaff to start the fall semester at NAU. I started from Cody Wyoming. Honestly I am shocked to know that H. is gone. I ran into her a couple of times in the Verde Valley with her at various stands and I passing by recognizing that distinctive name and recalling the time when we two watched the sun set in the west then turned due east and watched the full moon rise rise. You had to be there. That was the first time I heard of Art Bell as we listened to him on the radio and watched the skin walkers sprint past us. (you had to be there) She spent the night on my couch and when I awoke in the morning ready to get to class, she was gone. "thanks" was on a piece of paper. Honestly. with H gone, I believe there is nobody who can remotely conceive of that trip through Monument Valley. Via Con Dios Meja
"Though, I never had the opportunity to meet Hillary, I felt like I knew her somewhat through knowing her daughter, Natalie. I understand Hillary was an adventurer, as is Natalie. I met Natalie on a caving trip about five years ago. Later, I worked with her on a presentation she was preparing about lava tubes. She sent me this photo from one of her visits to a lava tube in Hawaii. I assumed the photo was of Natalie, but was surprised to learn that it was actually of her mother! How much they looked alike! How few mothers would have ventured into a lava tube!
In the relatively short time that Natalie has been caving, she has become a leading female caver, and has descended into and returned from the deepest pit in the U.S. (586'). She has also taken some beautiful photographs in caves, some of which were accepted into the very prestigious Photo Salon at the 2012 National Speleological Society Convention. I know Hillary was proud of her!
I suspect Natalie got much of her enthusiasm and zest for life, as well as her appreciation for it, from her mother. I wish that I had been able to get to know Hillary because I am certain that she was a very special woman because Natalie is, and Natalie loved her. The world is certainly a better place because Hillary was in it.
