I was stationed with Jim on the CG-95300 in Hilo in 1961 and 1962. I have many memories of that tour, and I like Jim married a Hilo girl. I talked to Jim only once after he retired in Hilo. This summer I was a Chaplain at the Queen's medical Center in Honolulu. When I discovered that Jim was a patient there I visited him. Though he had trouble speaking he did remember me and we renewed our friendship. I visited Jim as often as I could until August 12 when I completed my chaplaincy at Queens.
I regret that we will not return to Hilo in time to attend Jim's memorial service. I wish to express my condolences to the family and friends.
May Jim's soul rest in peace. This I ray in Christ's name.
Aloha, Kermit (Kit) Johnson, Lcdr USCG retired.
