Lawrence Kuulei McColgan Pedro Jr. passed away on July 24th, 2024. Born in Honolulu on January 24th, 1948, to Lawrence and Choy Sing Pedro.
Lawrence attended St. Louis High School, where he was known for his athletic skills. After high school, he served honorably in the Marines during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he settled on the Big Island, where his grandfather had been a state senator. He made his home in Hilo, the birthplace of his father.
Lawrence married Janet , He worked for the United States Post Office and was a lifelong activist, dedicated to union leadership, Hawaiian rights, and environmental causes. He was a founding member of the Maku’u Farmers Market and an active participant in Pahoa Main Street. Additionally, he was a well-respected basketball coach in Pahoa for many years.
Lawrence is survived by his sister Theresa Martinson of Maui, three daughters, two grandsons, and numerous family and friends.
