Marlene Hapai
It seems like yesterday Archie and I had planned to call Lew to sing him his yearly Happy Birthday over the phone. Unfortunately this year he died a few days before his birthday and we didn’t have that special connection. We think and talk about Lew often. He was always there to help whether it be campaigning, helping the St. Joseph School Alumni and Friends, or with Portuguese Day in the Park. He was very proud of his Portuguese heritage and put much time and energy putting his own family story as well as the story of all Hawaiis Portuguese immigrant families together for all to learn about their Portuguese roots. We will miss his sharing of these stories and we will miss him.
Lew was also lots of fun to be with, always joking. We lovingly called him Mr. Wonderful as that was what he was. There was nothing he would not do for us that he was able to do.
To daughters Rosemary and Stephanie that he spoke highly of, please accept our sincere condolences and know that your father was very special to us and is in our prayers and forever in our hearts and thoughts.
