Louis Manu Akuna III's Obituary
Louis, age 53, passed away peacefully at Queens North Hawaii Community Hospital on July 15, 2025. He spent most of his childhood across the scenic areas of Mana Road where his love of animals and the outdoors all started. He was given great responsibility at a young age and adjusted quickly to the "rancher" way of life, which included long days and strenuous labor attending to the livestock. His passion for hunting started within these mountain ranges and extended throughout the majority of his adulthood. His hunting experiences always took him back to his roots, which kept him close to areas he held close to him after the loss of his parents. He could be easily found with his own family tracking down pheasants or sheep, and he was always willing to share fond memories of his adventures. In Hilo, he was widely respected for his drywall skills, and was known for the numerous homes he helped to build with his own two hands.
Preceded in death by father Louis "Louie" Akuna Jr. and mother Patricia "Pat" Jane (Elizares) Akuna. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Charlene Akuna; sons Louis Manu Akuna IV, and Royden Makoa Akuna and daughter Leimomi "Momi" Jane Akuna and two beloved grandsons: Dayne Joseph Akuna and Dallas Jayce Akuna. Louie is also survived by his sisters, Teonie L. Akuna, Lou-Ann (Ralenton) Tolentino and Lea-Francine (Rilan) Ferreira and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
