Mark Lono Kanakaole
Mark Lono Kanakaole, 65, of Hilo, HI, passed away on September 1, 2023 at Hilo Medical Center. He was born on December 4, 1957 on Oahu. Mark is survived by his step-mother Florence K. Asperilla (Roy Yamamoto); step-children Marie (Rich) Hoapili, Deanna (Joe) Peredo, Jason (Sherry) Hite; brothers William K. (Sharon) Kanakaole Jr., Mitchell M. (Queenie) Kanakaole, Martin K. (Wailani) Kanakaole, Matthew M. (Mokihana) Asperilla, Dwayne H. (Faye) Asperilla; sisters Dallas H. Napolis (Robert), Veronica M. (Arnold) Tarleton; sister-in-laws Kathy Kanakaole, Kimberly Asperilla; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; Preceded in death by wife Gilda M.H. Kanakaole; father William K. Kanakaole Sr; mother Vilma M. Aleka; brothers Lambert M. Kanakaole, William A. Asperilla; sister Jacqueline P. Kanankaole. Mark was mostly known by his middle name Lono. He graduated from Pearl City High School, on Oahu between 1976-1977. Lono loved to play music, and it was a passion that began at the Sugar Shack bar in Haleiwa, HI. Lono to many was known to play with numerous groups, such as Nanea, Kanakaole Trio, and various individuals. If you cruised at the farmers market in downtown Hilo, you would have saw Lono playing music at the Hilo Farmers Market Kitchen or in front of the One Gallery store. He also played music at the Hale Inu Sports Bar in Hilo. He will be remembered for the love he shared with his family and friends.

A celebration of Life is set for November 11, 2023. Service begins at 11:00 am at The Salvation Army Hilo Corp, 219 Ponahawai St., Hilo, HI.
Another celebration of Life will be held on a later date on Oahu.
