Mary Kim Kamakaaloha Lum Ho's Obituary
MARY KIM KAMAKAALOHA LUM HO, 62, of Hilo, Hawaiʻi, passed away on January 9, 2026. She was born on April 27, 1963, in Hilo. Mary Kim retired as the Athletic Director of Haili Christian School after a lifetime of dedicated service to her community.
She was the eldest of seven children born to Albert Sr. “Itchi” and Leone Lum Ho. She is survived by her brothers, Albert Jr. “Peka,” Talbert, and Alston Maluo (Camille); her sisters, Gerry Lee Hicks and Sue Lynn (Alan) Nakamura; as well as numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Affectionately known by many as Aunty Kim, she was a member of Haili Church, where she served as a youth leader for many years. She also dedicated 25 years of service to Haili Christian School in various roles before her retirement. Aunty Kim was well known in Hilo’s volleyball community, where she made a lasting impact as both a player and a coach.
Aunty Kim had a natural gift for making friends wherever she went. She willingly opened her heart and home with generosity, sincerity, and love. Her passing has left a permanent hole in our hearts, but her kindness, service, and love will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched.
Visitation will be held from 9:00am to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Haili Church, with services to follow. Aloha attire is requested. An informal Celebration of Life will be held in April at Laupahoehoe Point.
