Merrill passed away peacefully in his home on November 29, 2022.
He was born April 30, 1931 to Marrion L. Smith and Anna V. (Deal) Smith, in New Pine Creek, California.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Marrion and Anna, His Brothers: Dale Smith, Eugene Smith, and Edward Stribling. His first Wife Janice E. Smith and his Son Christopher L. Smith.
He is Survived by his wife of 46 years; Ida K (Hopapili) Smith. And between them a large combined family of 14 Children Sharon K. Inman, Thomas E. Smith, Dennis W. Smith, Mark L. Smith, Richard E. Smith, Mathew J. Smith, Charles L. Jenks, Terrie L P. Esperaza, Albert K. Jenks, Paul K Hopapili, Victor L P. Hoapili, Tracy A M. Galimba, Trudy F O. Kistler. He was blessed with 34 grandchildren, 41 Great-Grandchildren and 6 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Merrill believed in the lord, He loved his family and friends He loved to travel, he took many fishing trips to Alaska.
In his lifetime he had many diverse businesses; Smith and Son’s Cabinet shop in South lake Tahoe,
The Burger Smith and the Hula-Hula Café On Maui, the Bid and buy in Hilo. He was a talented wood worker who built or remodeled many beautiful homes.
A celebration of life is planned for January 15, 2022 at Pohoiki for friends and Family. A potluck lunch at 1:00 Pm and service at 2:00 pm.
