Paula Lynn Allen's Obituary
Paula Lynn Allen (née Rose), affectionately known as Snooky, passed away on April 27, 2023, in Hilo, HI at the age of 62.
Born on April 2, 1961, in Pasadena, California, she spent her childhood on the California coast. The only place that could have captured her heart more was the great state of Hawaii, where she spent the majority of her adulthood.
Paula spent her childhood at the beach, riding horses, and flying by her competition on the track field. Her passion, strength, and determination were evident from a young age, and she soon began showcasing these qualities to the world. At the age of 14, she competed at the Junior Olympics and set a record for the mile track event with a time of 4:48.
Growing up, Paula developed a deep love for the military, influenced by numerous family members who had served. In her 20s, she made the decision to join the United States Navy. As a Loadmaster, she enjoyed a successful career and had the opportunity to explore various corners of the world aboard Gulfstreams. Her military journey also led her to her former spouse, Theodore Allen (USMC), and together they moved to Hawaii, where they found a new place to call home. After retiring from the Navy, Paula dedicated many hours to volunteering and sharing her love for Hawaii and its history as a docent at the Iolani Palace. Her enthusiasm and dedication shone through in every tour she led.
Paula was a vibrant and passionate individual who wore her heart on her sleeve. She had a contagious laughter and a candid way of speaking her mind.
Paula leaves behind cherished memories and will be deeply missed by those who loved her. She is survived by her father, Frank (Sharon) Rose, and mother, Pamela Reyes; brothers, Paul Triantafilos and Joe (Mary) Rose; niece, Alexandra Rose; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, a great-niece, and dear friends whom she considered family. She is preceded in death by her "papasito" Juan Reyes, as well as her grandparents, William and Patricia Buxton and Thomas and Vera Rose. Although Paula didn't have children of her own, she adored her fur babies and treated the children of her friends and family as her own.
A memorial service in Paula's honor will take place on September 15, 2023, at Hilo Veterans Cemetery #2. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Paula Allen may be made to Iolani Palace.
