Rex A. Jones' Obituary
Rex A. Jones passed away on December 16th, 2023 at the age of 62 in Kailua-kona, Hawai'i following a courageous three year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Rex grew up in Martinsville, Indiana, and as a young adult was part of Indianapolis area theater productions, where he particularly enjoyed being part of the stage crew. He was able to successfully put himself through both college and graduate school at Indiana University, where he obtained a Masters Degree in Library Science.
He ultimately found both professional and personal happiness being part of the Westfield Washington Public Library Staff in Indiana, working as A Reference Librarian at their Adult Information Desk.
Once Rex was no longer able to work, he moved to be with extended family on the Big Island, to begin Hospice supported care prior to his death.
Rex showed both courage and grace during his treatment, and has left a lasting impact on all who knew him. Rex unfailingly expressed appreciation for the support from both his family and work family, and to the medical and hospice team who cared for him. He also appreciated the staff at Magic's Beach Grill who treated him with such kindness at Sunday morning brunches and at his last requested visit.
He died peacefully listening to Bing Crosby's White Christmas after having listened to beautiful Christmas music for more than 48 hours.
Rex is survived by a loving brother, two sisters, both brothers and a sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews and their families and friends, and he will be remembered for his intelligence, kindness and courage.
