Richard Basque, 84, of Hilo, HI, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at his residence. He was born in Hilo, HI. He was a retired truck driver for Keaau Sugar, Hilo Coast Processing, Hamakua Sugar, and Kau Sugar. A visitation will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019 from 9 to 11 am at the House Hilo Assembly of God Church (2282 Kanoelehua Ave.); a Celebration of Life will take place at 11 am. An inurnment service will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019 at 12 noon at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery #2. Family requests casual attire. He is survived by 4 daughters, Deborah Mercado of Paradise Park, HI, Kathleen Basque of Oklahoma, Donna Mae (Byron Sr.) Smith of Hilo, HI, and Mary (Andre) Randall of Menifee, CA; 4 sons, Clifford (Mary) Basque of Oklahoma, Richard Maldonado of Hilo, HI, Anthony “Tony” Maldonado of Hilo, HI, and Rodney Maldonado of Hilo, HI; 3 sisters, Lorinda “Dolly” Abis of Keaau, HI, Leonora LaVoie of Hilo, HI, and June Hernkind of Washington; brother, Joe Basque of Oahu; sister-in-law, Rita Basque of Keaau, HI; 26 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
