Rockne Edward Araujo, 71, of Hilo, HI, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at the Life Care Center of Hilo. He was born in Hilo, HI on October 21, 1943. He was a retired Police Sergeant for the Hawaii County Police Department, a supervisor for Securitas Hilo Airport, an actor for Downtown Laundry Express’ TV commercials, a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, SHOPO, and a veteran of the US National Guard during the Vietnam War. A visitation will take place on Friday, January 23, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 8:30 am to 10 am; a mass will take place at 10 am. Family requests no flowers. He is survived by spouse Viola “Vi” Hoeptner-Araujo of Hilo, HI; son, Michael (Michelle) Araujo of Florissant, Missouri; daughter, Jennifer (Ed Alfonso) Hoeptner of Philadelphia, PA; hanai son, Toby (Deanne) Kahauolopua of San Diego, CA; mother, Dorothy Araujo of Henderson, NV; 4 sisters, Sheri (Bob) Saurer of Henderson, NV, Trudy Takayama of Hilo, HI, Edith Delos Santos of Kailua-Kona, HI, and Janice Sears of Honolulu, HI; 2 brothers, Christopher Araujo of Garland, TX and Henry (Cora) Kennedy Jr. of Honolulu, HI; 5 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousin, aunts and uncles.
