Sally Laree Gunter's Obituary
Sally was born in Rocky Ford, Colorado on January 11, 1943. She was preceded in death by
her parents, Floyd Clarence Youngblood and Edna Iva Allen Mellon, and older brother David
Floyd Allen Youngblood. She is survived by her younger brother Charles Edwin (KT Miller).
Sally grew up on Rocky Ford’s Sunny Slope enjoying her family and her love of horses. She
attended Rocky Ford High School and was adored by all.
She was married to Richard Morgan in 1960. Children: Dalynn (aka Denni) Jordan, Danny
(Dena) Morgan. Grandchildren: Matt, Ashley, Jana (Jacob), Heather and Sam (Holly).
Great-grandsons: Braden, Kash, Ryatt and Julian.
Sally was an active leader in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, a longtime member of Beta Sigma
Phi, and Bridge Club. She also enjoyed golfing and bowling.
Sally owned a dress shop, King’s Corner, in Rocky Ford. She was a buyer for Big “R” Farm &
Ranch Supply, and manager of Conrad’s dress shop in La Junta. Then Sally took upon the
adventure of a lifetime when she joined up with a genuine wagon train consisting of juvenile
delinquent boys, Conastoga wagons pulled by two mules each, a two-dozen horse calvary,
and a company of Buffalo Soldier infantry… all under the umbrella of VisionQuest’s
Western Division.
In 1997, Sally married James “Taj” Gunter and they moved to Hawaii Island. They enjoyed
going to Hawaii’s many beautiful beaches (where Taj surfed) and over the years toured all of
the Hawaiian Islands except Niihau. She worked for Catholic Charities Hawaii and retired
in 2007. Sally really enjoyed her yardwork in their beautifully landscaped lawn filled with
many varieties of palm trees, ferns, orchids, anthuriums, and philodendrons.
Sally fought a tough and lengthy battle with cancer but was able to spend her last days in
the fulfillment of her dream - in a place known worldwide as “Paradise.”
