Sonja Gerda Irene Okano's Obituary
Sonja Gerda Irene Okano, 86, of Yelm, WA, formerly of Hilo, HI, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at her residence. She was born in Stockholm, Sweden. She was a retired employee of Keep Hawaii Beautiful and she was a part of starting the Litter Control program in Hilo as well as the Adopt A Highway program. She was a member and past President of Hilo Women’s Club. A Celebration of Life will take place on Thurday, September 24, 2015 at 5 pm at Christ Lutheran Church (595 Kapiolani St.). An urn burial will take place on Friday, September 25 at 11 am at Homelani Memorial Park. She is survived by 2 sons, Paul Phillips of Los Angeles, CA and Allen (Lorena) Okano of Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Nancy (Philip) Gross of Hilo, HI; sister, Sylvia Zuehls of Las Vegas, NV; 3 sister-in-laws, Yaeko Ohata of Kona, HI, Margaret Okano of Keaau, HI, and Clara Okano of Volcano, HI; brother-in-laws, Charles Okano of Keaau, HI; 8 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great, great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
