Velda “Maile” Yamanaka, 71, died at home Nov 18, 2021. Born in Hilo, BA in Liberal Studies/Hawaiiana classically trained in Hawaiian chant and dance under Auntie Maiki Aiu Lake of Halau Hula O Maiki, Master of Oriental Medicine and Taoist Acupuncture, substitute resource teacher in Hawaiian studies, Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park volunteer, US Air Force veteran. Private services held. Celebration of Life Tuesday Dec 28, 2021, noon, Episcopal Church of the Holy Apostles, 1407 Kapiolani Street, Hilo. Casual attire: no flowers or koden. Preceded in death by father Masashi Yamanaka, mother Fumiyo Yamanaka, brother Theodore “Ted” Yamanaka, Survived by sister Maxine (Marcos) Eisenberg of Castro Valley, CA, sister- in- law Rae Yamanaka of Hilo, nieces and nephews.
