Edward P Johnston
What a wonderful and dynamic personality! I first met Wallis Nagareda in the very early days of 1993 when I was working to get the Onomea Trail/Road opened for public access after being closed to fisherman access for 15 years. Wally and Tom Omori and Tom Yanagizawa all started to come to our meetings and get involved. Wally was the inspiration and his memories of that special place could melt your heart. I could very easily write a Chapter or Essay about Wallis' involvement and dedication. But, just to be brief, when it was all over in about 1996 and Judge Kimura and the State DLNR required the Trail to be fully re-opened to all-- 24 hours a day-- Judge Kimura took me aside and told me the person he most admired and "listened to" in all the testimonies was Wallis. Today we see the Onomea Trail is a highly used walk for all! Fisherman, local residents, Tour Groups. Gone or forgotten now are most of the folks who helped get it re-opened.
Sincere Condolences to the Family-- Ed Johnston, Kahua ahupua'a, Pepe'ekeo.
