Dr. Liborio Pasion Namnama

Dr. Liborio Pasion Namnama of ‘Āinaloa, Hawai’i Island, passed away in his sleep on December 17, 2021. He was born on March 8, 1938, in Nueva Era, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, and he immigrated to Honolulu in 1970. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Celerina (Sally) Esteban Namnama; daughter Sarah (Kahilu Nihikahele) Namnama Saria; son Melvin Namnama; son-in-law Robert Saria; daughter-in-law Mayra Namnama; and grandchildren Lauren (Malia) Hope Saria, Matthew (Makani) Ricardo Saria, Megan Namnama, Nicholas Namnama, and Victoria Namnama. His son Liborio Shane Namnama (born January 14, 1971) predeceased him in 2011. Dr. Namnama received his medical degree from Manila Central University, obtained his medical license in the United States, and practiced pediatric medicine for 30 years at the Jersey City Medical Center, New Jersey Juvenile Detention Center, and New Jersey Department of Health. His was gentle with his patients and well-liked by nursing staff and his fellow doctors. He helped several doctors with their careers, and they returned to practice on O’ahu. After retiring, he returned to Hawai’i, making his final home ‘Āinaloa. He had 12 siblings and is survived by siblings Maria Namnama Batacan, Bernardo Namnama, and Juliana Namnama Duyao. His older brothers, Mariano and Eugenio Namnama, helped him pay for his education. His parents were Evaristo Namnama and Dorotea Pasion Namnama. He liked to watch cowboy movies, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and professional boxing. He listened to Nat King Cole and Johnny Mathis. His dogs, Yogi, Mini, Kakini, and Kimo were with him in ‘Āinaloa. His dogs in New Jersey were Charlie, Sushi, and Wyler June, and his cat was Mr. Grant. May the best in Dr. Namnama live on in his children and grandchildren, and may Our Heavenly Father welcome him home. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 15-3003 Pāhoa Village Road, Pāhoa, HI 96778, at 10:30 am on Saturday January 15, 2022. Due to COVID pandemic restrictions, attendance will be limited. Please call a family member if you wish to attend. Please follow social distancing and masking requirements. An inurnment will follow the mass at Homelani Memorial Park Cemetery, 388 Ponohawai Street, Hilo, HI 96720 at 12 noon on Saturday January 15, 2022.
