Shellie Bee Naungayan
On September 9, 2026, Clint and I would have been married for 54 years. We first met at Konawaena High School, and our very first date was on June 8, 1968, a movie-date at the Aloha Theater in Kainaliu, Kona. That was my first official date because I was 16 years old.
Although Clint and I should have both graduated together in 1970, Konawaena was on a Coffee Schedule, and when I transferred to Kona from Scottsdale, Arizona, in March of 1966, I was nearly finished with Grade 8. So, my mother insisted that I be enrolled in the 9th grade at Konawaena; she said that I would attend school that entire year without a summer vacation.
I did not meet Clint until my Junior year in 1968. It was at a basketball game in the old Kohala High School Gym. I was a cheerleader, and (apparently) I was blocking his view as he took statistics for the Konawaena basketball team. He yelled at me, "Hey, Shellie Allen, get out of the way!" Yes, it was "hate at first sight" for both of us! It took months for us to actually meet one another and to carry on a civilized conversation. That is the absolute truth! Shellie
