Dear Carolyn, please accept my sincere condolences in the loss of Fred, who is one of the finest men I have ever known. Last year, Fred offered me a ride to the Foundation's golf tournament in Kona. We were able to chat all the way over and back. I am still in awe at how much he was able to accomplish in his lifetime. After that trip, I bought his book at Lyman Museum and thoroughly enjoyed his life story. He was an exceptional guy. Carolyn, I haven't seen you in a while and hope that you are doing okay. I will always be grateful to you for having helped me with TB Countdown...going all over the Big Island to give TB skin tests so many, many years ago. Fred was a wise and generous man. We enjoyed working with him on the scholarship funds that he helped to set up with Hawaii Community Foundation and as an advisory committee member for the East Hawaii Fund. I loved hearing his stories about his life and eagerly read his autobiography cover to cover and then shared the book with others. I know that he will be greatly missed. My condolences and aloha to his family.

It has been an honor to have known Fred and consider him a friend. Fred was a great and generous man in so many ways who gave so much to his family, friends and the community of this beautiful island.
