Herbert Ray Murray's Obituary
Herbert “Herb” Ray Murray, 92, of Oahu, Hawaii, passed away on December 27, 2025, in Hilo, Hawaii. Born on December 2, 1933, in Fargo, Oklahoma, and raised in Madras, Oregon, Herb made Hawaii his home in 1969.
Herb was a hard-working man who built a successful construction company in Hawaii. Along with his wife Della, he raised three children. As an accomplished general contractor, he respected and supported his work crews and took pride in the many large housing projects and commercial spaces he brought to life throughout all the Hawaiian islands. A talented carpenter and accomplished woodworker, Herb was a super handyman who loved to fix things—he'd help almost anyone with a car repair or home improvement project. Herb (aka Herby) was a cheerful guy who wore an Aloha shirt every day and made friends easily at local establishments like O'Toole's in Honolulu or The Shack in Kailua.
Herb is survived by his wife, Della Murray; his daughters, Diane Wernet and Karen Jones; his son, Michael Murray; his grandchildren, Justin Cardenas, Jeremy Jones, Logan Wernet, Trey Murray, and Malina Murray; and his great granddaughter, Anela Wernet. He was predeceased by his brother, Stan Murray, and his parents, Ray and Lavina Murray.
