Joy B. Pruitt (née Joy Pruitt-Joseph), 77, of Hilo, passed away at home on December 5, surrounded by her loving family. Joy is survived by: her husband, Larry Joseph; daughter Felicia Faden (Sean) and their children Joelle and Jo Read Obituary
I was an RN with Hawaii Care Choices and was stationed at Hilo Medical Center for several years. I SO enjoyed witnessing the care and love that Joy gave to ALL of her patients AND to the hard working staff members at HMC. She had GREAT focus before, during and after her evaluations of ALL her patients. I appreciated her kindness and empathy to the them and their families. Her reports were concise and exacting along with directions, recommendations and plans of care to work with each individual patient. I am sure she is very much missed by her family and also by HMC staff. My heartfelt sympathy, Love and Aloha to all her family at this great loss. I am honored to have known her in action. Most of my time with Joy was at the Nani Mau prayer room, pre-pandemic, where we had many times together. We also went to Israel together and had life-changing shared experiences. She always made me laugh. And she always made me wait! ( our inside joke was “just wait, she’ll be here.” ) Joy demonstrated her love for people in her actions. I saw first-hand as she spoke with people of differing beliefs in Israel. She shared how she wished she could be more open about her faith but her ability to listen to others and give them time to express themselves was a divine gift many do not possess. The life in the body is over but her new life in the spirit, free from disease has just begun. Still, i know the void in your heart is real so I extend our condolences and pray for peace.
